The smart grid paradigm poses new challenges to communication networks requiring a flexible and orchestrated network, slicing, and millisecond-level latency. In order for today’s power distribution grids to be transformed into ‘evolved’ smart grids that feature online monitoring data and to enable efficient, fast, and secure operation, power distribution companies need new tools that will allow them to monitor and operate the distribution network and to maintain and increase reliability and Quality of Service (QoS). To tackle these problems, Smart5Grid identifies the following high-level requirements for the communication network that will allow building innovative and high performance smart grids: (i) very high device density for connecting thousands of energy metering and power electronic devices in one location, (ii) very high bandwidth to allow massive data flows from multiple devices simultaneously, allowing remote maintenance and substation monitoring, and (iii) ultra-low latency for fault detection, network isolation, and operation of recovery devices within one power cycle (i.e. 20ms for the 50Hz frequency used in electric current).
To achieve these ambitious goals, the main novelties and technology features of the project are listed below:
-Smart5Grid MEC platform,
-5G Core Service Based Architecture for the energy-specific vertical domain,
-Open 5G platform for smart grids and third-party experimentation,
-Open NetApp repository for third parties,
-DevOps approach for energy specific NetApp development and deployment and
-Network Slicing (Enhanced Mobile Broadband – eMBB, massive Machine-Type Communication – mMTC, ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications – uRLLC). Show less

Started in 2015, the FLEXICIENCY project aims to demonstrate that the deployment of novel services in the electricity retail markets, such as advanced monitoring, local energy control and flexibility, can be accelerated with the introduction open European market place for standardised interactions among electricity stakeholders within and across borders. This will open up the energy market to new players at EU level. To demostrate this, the Market Place platform was built and 5 demos across Europe are now running. The project, financed by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, involves 18 european among the top players of electric market.

Key responsibilities:
- Redesigning the interaction with the clients;
- Rethinking the end-to-end processes with a disruptive approach;
- Rebuilding from scratch the communication model;
- Redesign the process and simplifying the IT platform to improve customer interactions.

New application for handling all the back-office process for connect new producer-customers to the distribution network, replacing GOAL. FOUR is part of IT core infrastructure and is connected with all the other software platforms. For the go-live I was leading the integration team for the data migration from the old platform, later I became the Product Owner and Project Leader for the major changes, in order to dismiss the previous platform.

Main application for handling all the back-office process for connect new producer-customers to the distribution network, producing documents and giving alarms on main process deadlines. The platform is still operating, and is connected with the main invoicing sistem, the web customer's application and several reporting systems

Using LEAN and 6sigma approaches, this platform aimed to improve the back-office quality, giving several tools to boost the process optimization, showing where the main gap between expected and executed were and making comparisons among different areas to allow the best practice sharing.

Software platform for assets' census, for check what really is still in the company, what someone forgot to register as non-operative, with the achievement of a significant reduction of the yearly IT rental fee.

When talking about multimedia was still a fairy tale, we build up a full equipped multimedia training room. Every desk has been realized on a Samef patent design, and equipped with a special ardware to allow the trainer to check the student's monitor, use the keybord from main consolle and project every single student's monitor in the big 100" retro-projection screen.

The project has been realized in partnership between Samef and Philips Automation.
