Exciting renewable energy news! The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released its latest report, which shows a remarkable surge in global renewable energy capacity growth in 2023. A staggering 50% increase in renewable capacity additions, representing an unprecedented 510GW, as compared to 2022. We are committed to playing our part in this global energy revolution. In 2023, we registered a renewable energy capacity growth of 8%, compared to the previous year, which allowed us to achieve the impressive mark of 24 GW in total installed renewable energy capacity. We recently celebrated International Women's Day and last week's R&D Session focused on a highly relevant topic: ‘Inspire & Ignite: Women Leaders in Energy and STEM'. Women are still underrepresented in STEM areas, and diversity is something that we must continue to work towards, not just on days like these, but year-round. EDP partnered with Rondo Energy, a company that produces a high-temperature, high-efficiency commercial energy storage system, to allow industries and other energy-intensive clients in Europe to generate heat on a large scale and at a competitive price, powered by wind and sun. We aim to develop up to 400 MW of large-scale and distributed wind and solar projects in the medium term to power up to 2 GWh of heat battery installations from Rondo. Vera Pinto Pereira, EDP’s Board Member, states that “Rondo’s technology opens a major business opportunity for the decarbonization of our clients that have high energy needs and that use heat in their industrial facilities. By working with Rondo, we can meet their needs for renewable energy and heat in a cleaner, affordable, and reliable way.”.
